Tanzania: Strategic Cotton at Scale.
Tanzania is one of East Africa's largest cotton producers with two major growing zones, a strategic national classification, and significant potential for organic and sustainable certification under the CmiA Organic standard.
The Tanzania Cotton Story
Tanzania's two cotton growing zones the Western and Eastern Cotton Growing Areas collectively support hundreds of thousands of smallholder farmers across some of the country's most agriculturally productive regions. Tanzania already participates in the CmiA Organic standard, and its track record with sustainable certification makes it one of eko·kotton's most strategically significant programme geographies.
eko·kotton's Tanzania work builds on existing certification infrastructure, strengthening cooperative capacity, improving market linkages, and expanding the footprint of verified sustainable cotton from this critical origin.
